Special Report: Bunker Fuel Dangers Revealed: How Toxic Is The Oil Spilled Into SF Bay?
November 29th, 2007
When the Cosco Busan hit the Bay Bridge, 58,000 Gallons of bunker fuel poured into the bay. CBS 5 Investigates did some testing on a spill sample to see just how toxic the oil was.

What is Bunker Fuel?
November 14th, 2007
The origin of the bunker fuel being considered is crude oil. When crude oil is subjected to refining, the lighter fractions (gasoline, kerosene, diesel, etc.) are removed by distillation. The heaviest materials in crude petroleum are not distilled - the boiling points are too high to be conveniently recovered. Finally, any contaminants in the crude will not be distilled from the crude and will also be in the resid.
