Pittsburg -- An environmental watchdog group has received a
$3,200 grant to help expand the county's Bucket Brigade program,
which sends volunteers into the community to sample foul odors near
petrochemical plants.
CAP-IT (Community Abatement of Pollution-Industrial Toxins) received
the grant from the Oakland-
based Rose Foundation. The grant will enable the group to expand from
9 to 11 the number of air samplers.
CAP-IT will also use the money for community education and outreach,
said Paulette Lagana, the group's executive director.
Bucket Brigade samplers are not be expected to be chemical detection
experts, but instead, they are residents interested in sharing
information about air pollution in their communities.
