dear friends,
Letter from the
Founder / Executive Director and President
In 2001, Global
Community Monitor started off as one person with a good idea.
Today, that good idea
has been transformed into a great organization with a team of nearly twenty—including
staff, board members, environmental experts, interns, and volunteers—who have
handed off the power of the Bucket to our community partners , the true heroes
in the battle for clean air.
Calls for help have
led to Bucket Brigades. Air samples have led to community action. Targeted
campaigns have led to new laws, cleaner air, and improved health for those most
vulnerable, like children, seniors, and people with chronic health issues such
as asthma.
Global Community
Monitor [GCM] brings a unique set of skills and expertise to bear for our
grassroots partners around the globe.
Take one part social
justice advocate, add one part environmental health expert, and stir in a
dedicated technical support team, and you’ve got GCM—the only organization of
its kind empowering and connecting people all over the world in their common
desire to protect their right to clean air and a healthy environment.
So, with our first
decade under our belt, we recognize that we’ve got something special. But
winning clean air victories and reclaiming healthy communities require more
than a single organization. They call for a movement—an international movement
of generous donors, activists, scientists, and fenceline community members—all
working together.
Join us, as we embark
on our second decade of defending everyone’s right to clean air.
Sincerely,
Denny Larson
